Customers who have lived here and have moved away always come in to eat at Sunny Han’s when they are back in town. We always hear, “there is no other place or food like Sunny Han’s.” They are always telling us to open a Sunny Han’s in Bend, Hawaii, or other places and countries in the world.
At Christmastime people come in and place orders for 10 or 12 meals to go, freeze them, box them up, then over night them to students, relatives or friends as gifts.
Many Birthday celebrations, and other happy occasions are held at Sunny Han’s.
It is not uncommon to see whole dance teams, soccer teams, Tae Kwon Do students, Scouts, you name it, en masse enjoying Sunny Han’s food.
Employees “Theme Dress” for the many events held in Historic Downtown Gresham: Santa hats for the Spirit of Christmas, 50’s dress for the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce Street Dance and the Northwest Autosports Car Show, costumes are worn for the Halloween Candy Give-away. Crews also bring music to play that further compliments their efforts. A great place to work!
Very diverse work force. Employee manual is in English and Spanish. Employees are encouraged to attend college. The work schedule is tailored so that employees can do both, work at Sunny Han’s and go to college.
Sunny Han’s has won many awards: 1997 Livable City Center Award for Outstanding Main Street Business, The Metropolitan Human Rights Commission Community Harmony Award, City of Gresham “Gresham’s Best” for Continuing Excellence in Landscaping, in a recent Outlook Newspaper survey Sunny Han’s was voted Best Place for Lunch, Best Place for Dinner, Best Family Restaurant and Best Chinese Restaurant.
The exterior of Sunny Han’s is simple with clean lines. The interior however offers a calming Asian motif, completely designed and decorated by Judy Han with artifacts, paintings, and clothing from their trips to China. The brick courtyard with its Chinese garden featuring bamboo, black stones and Chinese ceremonial gong completes the look.
Sunny Han’s is very involved in the Gresham community: member of the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce, Gresham Historical Society, Historic Downtown Gresham Merchants Association (Judy Han is a Past-President of the Association and was the editor of the Association Newsletter) and the Portland Classical Chinese Gardens. Sunny and Judy are dedicated to community involvement and have sponsored many community events. They hold business memberships in the Oregon Restaurant Association and the National Restaurant Association.
